What is Aluminum Extrusion?

The aluminum extrusion process is to heat the aluminum to a malleable state, usually between 350 and 500 Celsius degrees, depending on the alloy type. The heated aluminum billet is then placed in a chamber and high pressure is applied using a hydraulic press, forcing the aluminum through a specially designed mold, which determines the final shape of the extrusion.

As the material exits the mold, it will cool and solidify to maintain the required shape. The extruded aluminum can be further machined, such as cut, CNC machined or polished to meet specific application requirements. This process is highly efficient and can produce complex shapes with excellent precision and surface quality.

Solnit Aluminum Extrusion Types

At Solnit, we offer versatile aluminum extrusion capabilities tailored to a wide range of profile shapes — whether standard or highly customized. From raw extrusion to final CNC precision machining, Solnit delivers a truly one-stop service.

Solid Profiles
Solid Profiles

Solid extrusions feature a continuous cross-section without internal cavities, offering excellent strength and structural integrity. Ideal for brackets and rails.

Hollow Profiles
Hollow Profiles

Hollow extrusions include one or more enclosed voids within the cross-section. Commonly used for tubing, frames, enclosures, and thermal management.

Complex Profiles
Complex Profiles

For intricate geometries, asymmetric shapes, or multi-zone profiles. Custom dies help integrate multiple functions into a single profile, reducing assembly steps.

Advantages of EDM & Wire EDM

EDM and Wire EDM offer unique benefits for high precision, intricate designs, and tough materials. Top six advantages:

Ultra Precision

Achieves micron-level accuracy for intricate features, sharp corners, and fine details that traditional machining cannot reach.

Complex Shapes

Manufactures complex geometries such as narrow slots, deep cavities, and intricate profiles with ease.

Works on Hard Materials

Efficiently machines hard-to-cut materials like titanium, carbide, and hardened steels with no tool wear issues.

Burr-Free Finish

Produces smooth, burr-free surfaces, reducing or eliminating the need for secondary finishing operations.

Thin & Delicate Features

Capable of machining delicate parts with thin walls and micro-scale features without distortion.

Time & Cost Effective

Reduces lead time and tooling costs by directly shaping the part with electrical discharge rather than physical cutting tools.
